A Journey to the Interior of the Earth (1877) a classic science fiction novel by Jules Verne (published in the original French as Voyage au centre de la Terre in 1864). The story involves a professor who leads his nephew and hired guide down a volcano in Iceland to the "center of the Earth". They encounter many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy.Jules Verne (1828–1905) was a French writer. He was one of the first authors to write science fiction.  The action of J. Verne's novels, always very well designed, usually takes place in the second half of the 19th century. They are  exceptionally adventurous - "Captain Grant's Children" (1868), "Around the World in Eighty Days" (1873), "The Fifteen-Year-Old Captain" (1878), etc., and science fiction - "From Earth to The Moon" (1865), "Twenty thousand leagues under the sea" (1870), "Robur the Conqueror" (1886), etc. In addition to novels, he created many plays, short stories, autobiographical stories, poems, songs; scientific, artistic and literary works.
